Puducherry: Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi on Friday advised Industries here to look after their labourers and not to hire anyone more than required.
In a whatsapp posting, the Lt.Governor referred to a mask manufacturing industry from where several people were infected by COVID-19 and said that they flouted the law and caused entire problem in Puducherry.
They employed more than the authorized workers and there after never looked after them, she said, adding that they will be prosecuted under the Disaster management Act and the Labour Act.
Ms Bedi said Law enforcement should become a habit, abiding by law should be a habit and added that companies should go by the need and not by greed.
Stating that the mask company had played a havoc, the Lt Governor said that every medical examination and treatment is exceedingly expensive. People should understand that it is very heavy on the health of others.
Ms Bedi said all industries and managers should look after their labourers and livelihood should also continue along with lives. Though, the factory has been closed down, every body is the loser, just because they decided to violate the law shamelessly, she said.
The Lt Governor said warnings must be heeded, respect for law must get inculcated earlier the better, if people want lives and livelihood.
Wearing masks and maintaining social distancing should now be a habit and not by fear of enforcement, the Lt Governor said it is a self-protection and to stop spread of COVID-19.
She said every one should download ‘Arogya Setu ‘ app in their smartphone so that they will get intimation of an infected person nearby.
