Open Letter to Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus: Are you China’s puppet in W.H.O?

Humanity is under threat on account of the Corona Virus pandemic.

The origin and spread of the human-to-human transmitted deadly virus is China.

You are the Director General of the World Health Organisation (W.H.O) – a global body that that prepares for emergencies by identifying, mitigating and managing risks during outbreaks and pandemics. W.H.O is an arm of the United Nations.

On January 14th 2020, in a Tweet at 4.48 pm on social media platform Twitter, W.H.O stated, “Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China.”

However on March 9th 2020, WHO Tweeted the following contradiction to its initial assessment based on the preliminary investigations by the Chinese authorities:

“Now that the #coronavirus has a foothold in so many countries, the threat of a pandemic has become very real. But it would be the first pandemic in history that could be controlled.
The bottom line is: we are not at the mercy of this virus”-@DrTedros #COVID19”

As I write this open letter there are 523263 positive coronavirus cases and 24090 deaths globally.

The WHO and you in particular Dr Tedros need to explain to the world currently reeling under this health-related catastrophe caused by the virus, the quid pro quo you share with China. Are you China’s puppet in W.H.O?

After W.H.O made its declaration that it found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission based on preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities on January 14th 2020, as the Director General of W.H.O you met with Chinese President Xi Jingping in Beijing on January 28th 2020.

Post the meeting, you commended China stating ‘China is setting new standard for outbreak control’ and also praised the Chinese president for the ‘openness of the Chinese government in sharing information’ with W.H.O and other countries.

China state media reported comments from you Dr Tedros praising China on dealing with the coronavirus outbreak, “China’s speed, China’s scale and China’s efficiency is the advantage”

Here is an interesting piece of information Dr Tedros reported in the Taiwan media.

Taiwan has accused the W.H.O of failing to communicate an early warning about transmission of the coronavirus between humans, slowing the global response to the pandemic. Health officials in Taipei said they alerted the WHO at the end of December about the risk of human-to-human transmission of the new virus but said its concerns were not passed on to other countries.

Why did W.H.O ignore the warning of Taiwan?

Did you ignore the warnings from Taiwan in December because of your close proximity to China.

It has been widely reported that the day-after your election to the post of Director-General of W.H.O you committed to China through its state-media, that “You and the WHO will continue to support the “One China” principle, which recognizes the government in Beijing as the legitimate Chinese government.”

Why did you delay on declaring the coronavirus outbreak as a PHEIC?

On January 23, the WHO’s emergency committee was divided on whether to declare the coronavirus outbreak as public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). You had the final authority Dr Tedros, yet you decided to wait. After over a week you decided to declare it as a PHEIC.

The delay of over a week witnessed a global spread of the coronavirus with over 7700 cases in 18 countries not only China, which you had admitted on January 23rd that China was in a health emergency stage.

Why is W.H.O soft on China?

On February 20 at the Munich Security Conference, you told the world that “China has bought the world time.”

The reason W.H.O takes a soft stand towards China is because China’s W.H.O contributions have reportedly grown to USD 86 million – a 52 per cent rise in 2019. Even the voluntary contributions has increased from USD 8.7 million to USD 10 million in 2019, as reported in certain sections of media.

The reason you, Dr Tedros takes of soft-stand towards China and acts like its puppet is because reportedly China backed your election campaign to the post of Director-General of W.H.O.

Is it not true that you shared a good relationship with China even as the Health Minister of Ethiopia.

In their report ‘The WHO and China: Dereliction of Duty’ – the Centre for Foreign Relations states, “In contrast to his effusive praise for China, Tedros has been quick to criticize other countries for their responses to the outbreak. He called upon nations not to limit travel with China and warned against the “recrimination or politicization” of the outbreak. Domestic Chinese news coverage prominently features Tedros’ praise of Xi Jinping and criticism of foreign governments.”

It further states, “China was also an important ally of Tedros in the WHO’s DG election in 2017. Months before the election, Tedros was invited to speak at Peking University where he called for stronger cooperation between China and the Global South on health issues. China’s support for Tedros paid off immediately.”

In a scathing remark Centre for Foreign Relations states, “The WHO’s weak response to China’s mishandling of the COVID-19 outbreak has laundered China’s image at the expense of the WHO’s credibility. The rate of infection in China appears to be declining, but the risk of a global pandemic is increasing. The time is ripe for clear leadership from the WHO based on science not politics.”

The sentiment of people around the world is that you, Dr Tedros and W.H.O have betrayed the people of the world by hiding critical information of the corona virus and spreading false information of the virus at the earl-stages to protect China.

Dr Tedros, when questioned about your closeness to China, you called on the international community to focus on taking actions to prevent the further spread of the novel coronavirus outbreak, instead of speculating on what China did or did not do in the early days of the outbreak.

Media reported, I quote, “I cannot say they hid or they didn’t,” a statement you made during a press conference in Geneva, Switzerland, in response to a question referring to comments made by John MacKenzie, emeritus professor at Curtin University in Australia, and a member of the emergency committee of the International Health Regulations advising the WHO chief on the 2019-nCoV outbreak.

“If something was hidden, the world would have witnessed more cases spilling outside its borders, given how connected China is to the rest of the world. But the number of cases outside China is “very small,” you said.

“Even if China hides it, I don’t think the cases would be prevented from crossing the borders to other countries. So it really defeats the logic,” you further added.

I am shocked at your stand on being questioned about your closeness to China.

You should resign. You are traitor. You have betrayed the trust of the people.
